Company Expansions Creating Florida Jobs

Four companies are expanding and creating more Florida jobs.

According to an article by Market Watch, some major companies in the State of Florida are making some major investments that will in turn create new Florida jobs.

WellDyneRx, a pharmacy benefit management company, is planning to expand and create 670 new jobs in the Tampa Bay area. The company is tripling its prescription mail service capacity and opening a 66,000-square-foot facility in Lakeland. The company also plans to invest $20 billion to establish its southeastern operation center.

Solo Cup Plant to Close, Cutting 420 Chicago Jobs

Solo Cup Co. is relocating its headquarters and cutting 420 Chicago jobs in the process.

The company is moving its headquarters, comprised of three buildings, from Highland Park, an outside suburb of Chicago, to Lake Forest, where employees will be situated in one building. Employees that currently work for Solo will move into office space in Lake Forest during the summer of 2009, according to an article by WBBM.

“Relocating to one headquarters building will improve our efficiency and our ability to collaborate,” Robert Korzenski, president and CEO, said in the article.

Tourism Creating New York Jobs

The tourism industry is accounting for many New York jobs.

A new report by Empire State Development revealed that 672,000 New York jobs, or 6 percent of all the state’s employment, were created by the tourism industry in 2007. The report noted visitors spent $51 billion in the local economy during the year. The study was commissioned by the state Department of Economic Development’s Division of Tourism.

Much of the industry’s increase was the result of overseas and Canadian visitors traveling to New York as a because of a favorable exchange rate. Overseas visitors spent 15 percent more in New York in 2007 than in 2006. Canadians’ spending was up 11 percent in 2007 when compared to 2006. Foreign spending represented 28 percent of all visitor spending in 2007.

Ford to Hold Off on Hiring For Entry Level Jobs

America’s automobile industry is consistently declining, and one large automaker is planning to hold off on hiring any new entry level job employees until 2009.

Ford Motor Co. recently announced it will not hire employees for entry level jobs, lower wage positions or hourly positions until next year, according to an article by Reuters. The hiring freeze will most likely affect many people looking for Michigan jobs.

The company also plans to eliminate all its hourly workers who have accepted buyout offers by the end of the year.
