A new report has ranked Atlanta IT jobs among the best in the country.

Many officials and economic experts are touting that the economic recession is over and America is entering a period of economic recovery. One sign conducive to this is that some of the largest cities in the country are seeing an increase in demand for IT professionals.

NetworkWorld.com recently released a list of the top 10 cities for IT job seekers. The list compiled the need for IT professionals as reported by Dice, salary information as reported by PayScale, and reasons why IT professionals may want to search for work in the city.

The list named Atlanta as the 10th-best city for IT job seekers. The city had 1,372 available jobs in the industry as of May 2009, and that same month, the average salary for an IT project manager in Atlanta was $80,798.

Other perks – Atlanta is home to CNN, the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum and Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves. The city also features the Atlanta Botanical Garden, a 30-acre attraction that includes the largest orchid house in the country.

1. Washington, D.C./Baltimore – 6,817 available jobs, average IT director salary of $110,028
2. Silicon Valley – 2,534 available jobs, average senior engineer salary of $83,842
3. Seattle – 1,195 available jobs, average database administrator salary of $73,716
4. Philadelphia – 1,557 available jobs, average IT specialist salary of $51,912
5. New York/New Jersey – 5,341 available jobs, average systems engineer salary of $69,700
6. Los Angeles – 2,022 available jobs, average system administrator salary of $62,302
7. Dallas – 1,451 available jobs, average senior systems engineer salary of $88,327
8. Chicago – 2,056 available jobs, average IT consultant salary of $70,337
9. Boston – 1,902 available jobs, average senior software engineer/develop/programmer salary of $92,630
10. Atlanta – 1,372 available jobs, average IT project manager salary of $80,798
