More Dallas restaurant jobs (http://benchmarkinwestlake.com) should soon be created as a prominent indicator shows growth in the industry.

During September, the National Restaurant Association’s Restaurant Performance Index increased by .7 percent to 100.1, which is the highest level since June. Any level above 100 signifies growth and expansion in the restaurant industry.

“The September increase in the Restaurant Performance Index was fueled by improvements in the same-store sales and customer traffic indicators,” Hudson Riehle, senior vice president of the research and knowledge group for the NRA, said in a statement.

“Among the forward-looking indicators, restaurant operators are more optimistic about sales growth in the months ahead, while their outlook for the overall economy remains cloudy” Riehle added.

The Restaurant Performance Index is made up of two parts – the Current Situation Index, which increased by .8 percent to 100.1 during September, and the Expectations Index, which rose by .7 percent to 100.2.

The report further found:

50 percent of restaurant owners reported stronger same-store sales over the last year.

43 percent of owners saw higher customer traffic between September 2010 and September 2011.

43 percent of operators made a capital expenditure for equipment, expansion, or remodeling during the last quarter.

37 percent of restaurant owners expect to see higher sales in the next six months.

22 percent of operators expect economic conditions to improve in the coming months.

47 percent of owners plan to make a capital expenditure in the next six months.

The construction of a new hotel will support many Dallas construction jobs.

Magnolia Lodging Development is planning to build a new Home 2 Suites by Hilton on 3 acres of land near Stonebriar Centre Mall in Frisco, a suburb located about 28 miles from Dallas. The development company is locally-based.

The new four-story project will be located near State Highway 121 and Parkwood Boulevard. Although the exact details of the development and construction costs were not released, Home 2 hotels generally cost anywhere from $12 million to $15 million to develop, according to the Dallas Business Journal.

Home 2 Suites is an extended-stay hotel chain that launched in Memphis, Tenn. in 2009. The chain, which is meant to be a cheaper version of Homewood Suites by Hilton, caters to business and leisure travelers. Rooms cost about $90 per night.

The new project is great news for the Dallas area’s construction industry, which has continued to steadily recover from the economic recession in recent months, adding jobs both on a monthly and yearly basis.

The Dallas-Plano-Irving area’s mining, logging, and construction industry employed 103,700 workers during December, which is up from 103,500 workers during November and a 2.1 percent increase from last year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Dallas area had an unemployment rate of 8.3 percent during November. At the end of last year, the area employed a total of 2,050,700 workers, which is up from 2,045,900 workers during November and a 1.4 percent increase from the previous year.

Wondering what sales careers Dallas has to offer? You may want to consider the recovering automobile industry.

The Freeman Auto Report found that sales of new cars and trucks in North Texas increased by 8.4 percent during 2010. That growth in sales, along with more increases expected this year, is supporting the creation of more employment opportunities in the industry.

The report found that sales in Dallas County were up by 14.7 percent, while sales in Collin County grew by 17.1 percent, but both of those increases were offset by single-digit growth in Denton and Tarrant counties.

The 8.4 percent growth in new automobile sales may seem low compared to the increase seen in other spots throughout the nation. However, Texas as a whole fared better than the rest of the country throughout the recession, so local car sales had less of a downturn to recover from.

“We were mainly looking for evidence of growth, and we got it,” Lee Chapman, president of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan New Car Dealers Association, told The Dallas Morning News. “The last quarter was trending up, and I think everyone feels pretty good about 2011.”

Nationwide, car dealers sold about 11.6 million vehicles last year, which is an 11 percent increase from 2009. Experts predict that the auto industry will sell a total of 12.5 million to 13 million vehicles this year and 14 million vehicles after 2012.

About 420 of those positions will be for flight attendants and about 80 positions will be for pilots. This is great news for local job seekers and the air transportation industry as a whole.

Many of the jobs being created by US Airways will be filled by employees were previously asked to furlough or leave voluntarily. Although many of the new jobs will be based on the East Coast, it is expected that some positions will be available in Dallas.

“This is great news for our workforce and the communities we serve,” US Airways President Scott Kirby told The Dallas Morning News. “Our crew member hiring needs are being driven primarily by planned retirements and attrition, as well as international growth.

During September, employment among all scheduled passenger airlines in the U.S. decreased by .6 percent when compared to last year, marking the 27th consecutive decrease in full-time employment levels among these airlines.

Employment with US Airways decreased by 3 percent over the year, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

However, things are looking up, as many airlines have announced their plans to hire through the end of this year and into 2011. This is the first time the airline industry has seen any sort of prominent growth since the economic recession took hold in 2008.

In addition to US Airways, American Airlines Inc. is planning to rehire 545 flight attendants and 250 pilots by early 2011, and Delta Air Lines Inc. will hire 1,000 flight attendants and roughly 1,000 airport workers. In the meantime, AirTran Airways, JetBlue Airways Corporation and Southwest Airlines Co. all gained jobs during September.

Visit http://dallas.jobing.com/jobs/construction to learn more.

Construction managers are responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and budgeting a variety of construction projects. They are usually responsible for coordinating all aspects of the construction process, including hiring contractors to work on the project.

The amount of education you need to become a construction manager depends on the requirements of your employer. Although experience may be enough to get you hired, employers are increasingly seeking applicants who have a bachelor’s degree in a construction-related field.

A bachelor’s degree in construction science, construction management, building science, or civil engineering is usually preferred. Experience working in the construction industry also is extremely important, and although it’s not required, becoming certified also can increase your chances of landing the job.

Across Texas, employment should grow from 60,600 workers during 2006 to 76,450 workers by 2016, accounting for 15,850 additional jobs and an overall increase of 26.2 percent.

The top industries that employ construction managers in Dallas include:

Non-residential building construction – 17.62 percent

Building equipment contractors – 8.28 percent

Residential building construction – 6.83 percent

Utility system construction – 3.18 percent

Foundation, structure, and building exterior contractors – 3.18 percent

Local government, except education – 2.05 percent

During 2009, the average wage for construction managers in Dallas was $38.79 per hour, while the average wage throughout Texas was $37.26 per hour and the average wage across the nation was $44.85 per hour.
