Increased Holiday Spending to Create More Sales Jobs in Phoenix

Increasing holiday sales should create more sales jobs in Phoenix (Click here) this year.

A recent report from the National Retail Federation is predicting that holiday sales will increase once again this year, allowing retailers to hire hundreds of thousands of seasonal workers, which is great news for the millions of unemployment people throughout the U.S.

The NRF is predicting that holiday sales will increase by 2.8 percent to $465.6 billion this year. The projected increase is considered average compared to last year’s sales growth of 5.2 percent.

IT Jobs Phoenix Could Benefit from ASU Startup Program

The Arizona State University Venture Catalyst and Arizona Technology Enterprises are teaming up to launch the Rapid Startup School, a new program that will help post-doctoral researchers and graduate students start their own companies.

The new program, which is slated to begin October 25th at the ASU Tempe campus, will be free to graduate students and post-doctoral researchers. The school is modeled after a successful program at the Dublin City University in Ireland.

Hotel Industry Jobs Phoenix Bolstered by Sales

HVS recently released the 2011 Mid-Year Survey of Major and Mid-Market U.S. Hotel Transactions, which found that hotel sales continued to increase during the first half of this year, rising above the number of sales made during the same period last year.

Major-market hotels, or those selling for at least $10 million, fared the best this year. Not only did they see significant increases in sales activity, but they also saw average price per room increase by $45,000 from last year.

Insight Enterprises, Inc. recently released results from the company’s operations in Q2 2011. The company continued to perform well, with sales, profits and other indicators growing over the year.

“Strong execution supported by continued favorable market conditions enabled us to deliver a fifth consecutive quarter of double digit growth,” Ken Lamneck, president and CEO of Insight, said in a statement. “We remain focused on growing sales faster than the market in 2011 while continuing to drive operational efficiencies throughout our business.”

Hotel Industry Jobs Phoenix Among Yearly Job Creators

Although the industry lost workers on a monthly basis, the hotel industry jobs Phoenix has to offer were among those to grow over the last year.

During June, Arizona’s unemployment rate climbed from 9.1 percent to 9.3 percent, after falling from 9.3 percent the previous month. That puts the state’s rate just above the national average of 9.2 percent. Phoenix had a rate of 8 percent during May.

The Phoenix-Mesa-Glendale area employed roughly 1,681,800 workers during June, which is down from 1,713,800 workers during May – but a 1.1 percent increase from last year – according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

A number of Phoenix AZ jobs will be supported as a successful law school moves downtown.

The Phoenix School of Law recently announced its plans to relocate to the One North Central building in downtown Phoenix. That move will benefit the local economy by bringing several long-term, high-paying jobs to the downtown area.

“Phoenix School of Law’s announcement to relocate to downtown is great news, bringing long-term jobs that benefit the entire city,” Mayor Phil Gordon said in a statement. “By continuing to build on our knowledge based economy, we strengthen our workforce and create opportunities to reinvest in our community.”

Phoenix Sales Jobs in Retail Rank Best in Nation

There should be plenty of Phoenix sales jobs available in the retail industry, as the city added more retail jobs last year than any other city in America.

A new report from Buffalo Business First found that Phoenix added more retail sales jobs during 2010 than any other city in the nation. Although the city lost 7,000 retail jobs between 2005 and 2010, it added a total of 10,400 jobs last year, placing it well ahead of most others.

The only other city that came close to Phoenix in terms of retail job creation was Washington, D.C., which added 10,200 jobs last year. In all, about 51 of the 100 largest markets in America added retail jobs during 2010.
