Credit Card Company Cuts Atlanta Jobs

Over the course of the last year, many financial institutions have had to lay off workers. With 8.5 percent of the population unemployed across the nation, a good number of people are struggling to their debts. This leaves credit card companies holding debts that those without work can’t pay. Because of this many creditors are having to cut positions in order to make up for lost profits. Now one credit card company has announced that it will have to do away jobs in Atlanta.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, First National Credit Card Center will be closing two of its office located in the metro. This means the loss of 215 Atlanta jobs.

First National Credit Card Center, which is a subsidiary of First National Bank of Omaha, will be closing these facilities by August 31st. One facility, which is located at 157 Technology Parkway in Norcross, is an operations and call center. The other, located at 3490 Piedmont Road in Atlanta, is a corporate office and technology group facility.

“First National Credit Card Center has grown profitably over the past three years, but like any credit card issuer today faces significant challenges,” said First National Credit Card Center’s president and division head Stephen Eulie, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

First National plans to move approximately half of the Atlanta jobs to other facilities inside the United States.

Currently Atlanta’s unemployment rate is 9.1 percent, which is down slightly from February’s 9.2 percent. Although this may seem insignificant, it marked the first time in 20 months that the metro has seen a decrease in joblessness, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.
