Despite having one of the highest real estate foreclosure rates in the country, Las Vegas’ economy continues to thrive. Although home sales may leave something to desire, large scale construction projects, such as casinos, continue to provide Las Vegas job opportunities both during their creation and after they open their doors.
Providing not only tourist attractions, these hotels and casinos will create numerous Las Vegas jobs the hospitality and gaming industry, along with several others involved in the behind the scene work necessary to run such a large scale operation. With visitors to Las Vegas already up 1 percent, one can see the possibilities these new casinos will provide the area’s economy.
Over the next two years 12 casinos/resorts are expected to open their doors, bringing not only tourist eager to spend money, but also jobs. Both of which are equally beneficial to the area’s economy.
One of the biggest of these, scheduled to open early this year, is tower number one of Trump Las Vegas. This $1.3 billion casino will have 1,282 rooms. The soon to open Trump will provide approximately 3,200 Las Vegas jobs.
Also opening in the beginning of the year, is the Palazzo, scheduled to begin booking guests before the end of January. Costing half a billion more to create than Trump, the larger Palazzo has 3,000 rooms and will bring 7,550 jobs to the area.
The other four casinos scheduled to open in 2008 are all considerably smaller, the largest of which only having 830 rooms. All together these four casinos will create, either directly or indirectly, more than 4,800 Las Vegas area jobs. Those interested in working for any of these casinos scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2008, should begin putting in applications as soon as possible.
Scheduled to open in early 2009, there are three projects which will provide over 8,500 Las Vegas jobs. Opening mid to late 2009, the remaining four casinos will create a combined 35,498 jobs. The largest of these, MGM Mirage Inc.’s CityCenter, will open late in the year and provide 15,000 jobs by itself.
