San Antonio Jobs

By admin | November 11, 2007

The September unemployment statistics for San Antonio, Texas show that there was a small rise in the number of individuals who were unable to find work during the month. Figures rose from 4 percent to 4.1 percent, which is still lower than the state average of 4.4 percent or the national average of 4.5 percent. Despite a small rise in the jobless, these statistics actually show signs of a more positive economic future for San Antonio on the immediate horizon.

According to a report released by Alamo WorkSource, these and other figures showed that the area’s economy was beginning to stabilize. When the unemployment rate’s only small rise is looked at alongside the fact that 5,700 new San Antonio jobs were created in the month of September, one can see that the jobless rate increase was most likely a result of population growth.

Alamo WorkSource’s labor market analyst, Aaron Smith says that “[t]he San Antonio job market continued to show positive signs in September. After a steady decline, annual job growth stabilized.” He went on to say that the “job outlook for the largest and most skilled segments of our economy continues to be very good.” The city’s overall employment rate rose 0.7 percent in September.

One industry that continues to create new San Antonio jobs is the city’s thriving call centers. According to a 2007 report released by the Professional Teleservice Management Association, approximately 50,000 people in the city hold call center jobs.

The report went on to say that this number continues to grow steadily. Many of the companies which provide San Antonio jobs in the area’s call centers cite affordable living, quality of life, and the availability of a qualified workforce with bilingual capabilities as their reason for continuing to increase operations in the city.

At this time, Wachovia Bank is making plans for creating new San Antonio jobs as they look to expand their already existing call center. Wachovia expects to bring more than 300 new jobs to the area in the near future.
