The loss of approximately 1,100 Texas jobs was recently announced due to various closings and mass layoffs. This news comes at a time when confidence in the statewide job market is already at a record low.
According to Watch List, a weekly column on distressed commercial properties, mortgages, and corporate news, Alliance Data Systems Inc will be consolidating their call center located in Jacksonville. ADS plans to do away with 209 Texas jobs when it relocates positions to other company owned locations. The 1020 Willowcreek location will be permanently closed by April 18th. Also planning on doing away with Jacksonville, Texas jobs in April is Astro Air LP, which plans on laying off approximately 390 employees by the 14th of next month.
As a result of the expiration of The Army’s Training contract with Raytheon Technical Services Company LLC, 142 employees will lose their jobs around April 30th. The work being performed will be integrated into a new U.S Army contract, which although Raytheon has been named the prime contractor, will not create new jobs for these individuals as the majority of the work is expected to be subcontracted out to different companies.
Due to an expected Compass Bank and State National Bank merger approximately 100 jobs will be eliminated. In this circumstance, some employees are expected to find other jobs within Compass Banks.
With the housing market continuing its crisis state, it’s no surprise that Texas jobs with mortgage providers are being effected. Saxon Mortgage recently announced that approximately 100 employees at it’s Forth Worth location will soon have to look for new employment, although the company did not announce the date that the terminations would take place.
Saxon is not the only Financial Services employer expecting to do away with Texas jobs in 2008. Unitrin Inc, currently in negotiation for the sale of Unitri Business Insurance to AmTrust Financial Services, Inc, will be doing away with almost all of its staff of 344 employees in Dallas. AmTrust is expect to rehire approximately 185 of these individual. Although the sale is expected to close by March 31st, the terminations are planned to take place between the end of the month and December 31st.
