New York Job Market

The New York area job market for information technology professionals is expected to be in good condition for the second quarter of 2008. According to the most recent Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Index and Skills Report, a net 17 percent of chief information offices expect to create New York jobs with in the next few months. This figure is not only up three points from the area’s first-quarter expectations; it is also five points above the national average, making conditions in New York more favorable for those looking for IT jobs than elsewhere in the country.

Robert Half Technology interviewed 200 CIOs in the area, all from companies with 100 of more employees, and found that 19 percent expected to create New York jobs while only 2 percent were planning to reduce the number of individuals on their payroll for the second quarter. For the national data 1,400 executives were interviewed. The study was conducted by an independent research firm on behalf of Robert Half Technology, which is a leading provider of IT professionals on both a project and full-time basis.


According to the executive director of Robert Half Technology, Katherine Spencer Lee, the reason companies will be creating New York jobs for IT professionals is that “Companies are investing in new initiatives and technologies such as server and network virtualization, Voice over Internet Protocol and feature-rich, Web 2.0-type websites.”
