Express Scripts, Inc., a pharmacy benefits management company headquartered in St. Louis, recently announced that the company’s new high volume filler pharmacy also will be located in St. Louis.

“This expansion of our operations aligns with Express Scripts’ strategy to optimize service and cost savings for our clients and patients,” George Paz, chairman and CEO of Express Scripts, said. “I am especially pleased to announce that our decision to bring highly advanced pharmacy technology to St. Louis will create nearly 300 new jobs for the region.”

The company’s development of leading-edge high volume filler technology will help advance its leadership in providing solutions for some of the current healthcare challenges. Express Scripts hopes its expansion will help further the company’s capabilities to drive better health outcomes and lower costs for millions of Americans.

The new facility, which is expected to open in April 2010, will feature best-in-class pharmacy automation for the dispensing, packaging and shipment of 110,000 prescriptions per day. The technology Express Scripts has developed is expected to set a new standard for patient safety, service and overall efficiency, which will in turn allow companies to provide safer and more affordable drugs.

Express Scripts is one of the largest pharmacy benefits management companies in North America and provides services to thousands of client groups, including managed-care organizations, insurance carriers, employers, third-party administrators, public sector, workers’ compensation and union-sponsored benefit plans.

The company distributes a full range of biopharmaceutical products directly to patients or physicians and provides extensive cost-management and patient-care services.
