Jobs in Indianapolis

There is good and bad news for people of Indianapolis, Indiana. The unemployment rate is down to 5 percent, from the 5.1 percent of September, according to a press release made by the Indiana Workforce Development on November 22, 2006. There has also been a gain of somewhere around 123,100 jobs in the last decade, in large part due to the opening of many small and medium sized businesses.

On the other hand, there are approximately thirty-seven thousand individuals residing in Indianapolis who are currently without employment. With Diamler-Chrysler of Kokomo announcing last Tuesday that they maybe laying off 16 percent of current employees, approximately 7,000 individuals, at their transmission plants, many are concerned about the employment outlook of the city. Area analysts say the Diamler-Chrysler situation is simply part of an ongoing trend.
