Recruiting Up for Nuclear Engineers

Many companies in Virginia have an interest in nuclear power, an industry that has been near-dormant in the country for about 30 years. However, the possibility of a new focus on nuclear power will require companies to begin recruiting new engineers.

In the past year, according to an article by the Daily Progress, many state colleges and universities have increased their response to a potential need for more engineers, specifically on a nuclear level. The University of Virginia used to have undergraduate and graduate programs in nuclear engineering, as well as a research reactor on campus until the mid-1990s.

“Nuclear energy was going to power every aspect of our life,” Bill Hall, who worked at Duke Energy in Charlotte, North Carolina for 30 years and now teaches at the University, said in the article.

Achieving Zen in the Workplace

Achieving success in the workplace more often than not has to do with one’s ability to live up to the bosses’ expectations. Each employer is a distinct individual, valuing different traits in their employees. Whereas one may think highly of staff members who question set ways of handling different office place issues in a constant search for efficiency, other’s prefer a strict adherence to guidelines.

Prior to actually recruiting and then working with the individual it can seem impossible to gauge the qualities they favor in staff members. This can make resume writing and pre-employment background checks and interviews more nerve-racking than necessary.

Internet Recruiting

There it sits, taunting you. A disheveled pile of classifieds gathered from all the local newspapers. Somewhere in that haystack is your job or career, somewhere in that haystack is your livelihood.

To make things more complicated you get to decipher the lost language of the classifieds agent. “p.t. posn, min. qual., char. refs. nec., comm. immed.” Good luck with that. Furthermore, what is the job description? What are the benefits? Where is the information? Newspaper classifieds can be a frustration to job seekers. But there is another way, and for the last five years it has been growing in popularity, Internet recruiting.
