Tom Hanks Got Robbed

By admin | April 23, 2008

By Patrick Tumblety, CareerTV

From actor to producer, Tom Hanks has been working in the entertainment business for over two decades and has achieved success and acclamation from artists and fans alike. CareerTV had the chance to meet Tom Hanks at the premier of John Adams, a mini-series for HBO that Hank’s co-executive produced.

“My very first job…I sold peanuts and soft-drinks at Oakland A’s baseball games, and on the very first day that I did it, I got robbed of all my profits.”

Young Hanks did not let this unfortunate experience stop him from continuing, and learned different tactics to protect his earnings. “What I learned from that is bring a change of clothes so no one knows you’re a vendor. Don’t wear the white shirt, don’t wear the black pants. Change your clothes.”

“Number two, have some money in your pocket that they can rob you with, but have most of the money in your shoe so you can get that home,” the Castaway star added.

John Adams stars Paul Giamatti in the title role and illustrates the life of John Adams and his role in forming the United States. This is not the first time that Hank’s has produced a film for HBO, with credits including the award winning mini-series’ From the Earth to the Moon and Band of Brothers. With two academy awards in his pocket and twenty years worth of recognition, Tom Hanks seems to have the formula of success memorized, but he says otherwise, “Stumble around and get lucky, that’s my tip for success.”

Tom Hanks is currently in production on a sequel and a prequel; Toy Story 3, a franchise that he received several nominations for, and Angels & Demons, a prequel to 2006’s the Da Vinci Code.
