Casino Job Outlook in Las Vegas

By admin | June 13, 2008

Economic troubles across the country are cause the gaming industry to suffer, which means that finding a Las Vegas job in a casino might not be as easy as it has been in the past. With the rest of the country trying to figure out how much of their life savings in now going toward buying gas, fun in the city of sin isn’t feasible for many at the moment. Although the industry was previously thought to be recession proof, many Wall Street investors are beginning to lose faith.

The average daily share price of most the casinos were lower significantly lower in May than is the usual. MGM Mirage experience one of the highest decreases as their stock dropped 7.01 percent. Las Vegas San Corp shares declined by 4.04 percent and Wynn Resorts Ltd

Many of the casinos are beginning to increase efforts to attract tourist from outside of the county in hopes of keeping their profits margins up, but Las Vegas jobs may still be at stake. As fewer tourists file into the city in hopes of winning big, few employees are necessary at casinos, spas and hotels.

Las Vegas jobs in the hospitality and gaming industry aren’t the only ones that may be effected by decline in tourism. With a smaller amount of money being spent on the strip, employers involved in industries from food services to construction may see fit to make payroll cuts. For example; there is some concern that new construction project previously planned to break ground in the near future will be held off until the gaming industry recovers. Considering the fact that the area is suffering greatly from the housing market slump, no new commercial projects means no new Las Vegas construction jobs.

It isn’t that there aren’t Las Vegas jobs to be had, it’s just that the industries the country is known for aren’t generating as many new positions as they have in the past. If looking for a job in the area, consider places of employment that are utilized by locals.
